GYL Sixes for Boys House League

We are excited to get the games going this Sunday! We wanted to provide information about GYL Sixes for the Boys House League program.

  • Fast paced version of lacrosse played on a small field

  • Lots of running - there are fewer stoppages of play; limited faceoffs which are a minor part of the game at this level

  • No slashing, hitting, or takeout checks - the focus is on development; we teach the boys to use their feet to get between their opponent and the goal, using poke and lift checks; there is no hitting at this level of play

  • No offsides - kids focus on playing the game rather than looking for an unmarked midfield line

  • Line changes - at the younger levels we will blow a whistle and players will make wholesale changes at the same time; at the older levels you will see more "on the fly" changes or changes after a goal is scored

GYL has played variations of this for many years but we formally adopted the current rules in 2001 as World Lacrosse introduced their rules for the World Games. Sixes is now a staple in global lacrosse competition and the USA a front-runner to compete for Sixes gold at the LA Olympics in 2028.

Proper Equipment

Please be sure your child is equipped with the proper equipment for the season. GYL's Required Equipment Page is a valuable resource. Your son needs shoulder pads designed for lacrosse that includes a chest protector that meets NOCSAE standard ND200.
