GYL Travel Tryouts 2010

For tryout dates and times please go to the home page.

The most prevalent question that gets asked about travel lacrosse is the following, “is it okay to miss a tryout or two because of prior sports commitments or family functions?” Our response is universal for boys and girls travel and that is, “for best placement on a team, we strongly encourage you to attend all, or as many tryout sessions as possible.”

Boys Tryouts

  • Boys will hold four sessions of tryouts.  Times and dates will be posted on the website.
  • GYL has a minimum of 10 selectors per year that do their best to evaluate each child.
  • The teams are typically grade specific. The profile for these teams changes yearly and we discuss this at the conclusion of tryouts.
  • 5th through 8th grade teams participate in CONNY (Conn/NY lacrosse league) and compete in the June post season tournament.
  • GYL conforms to the “A” and “B” and “combination” team configurations consistent with CONNY membership, but reserves the right to make yearly changes based on enrollment.
  • Boys 3rd and 4th grade do not have a tryout process but instead are placed on teams. In the past there have been a 3rd grade and 4th grade only team.
  • Please note that these team configurations, grades 3 – 8, can change each year due to the changes in grade enrollment.
  • We do our best to accommodate all participants and have not, to date, had to cut any players from travel.
  • Our ultimate goal is to place each child on the team they would benefit most. The most effective way to do this is to show up for all travel tryouts.
  • We ask that all Parents respect the decisions of the selectors and not interfere with the process. Players, Coaches and Parents are asked to sign a commitment letter and code of conduct. It asks you to make Lacrosse your priority in the Spring. The Code of Conduct also asks you to be respectful towards one another.
Girls Tryouts
  • Girls will hold four sessions of tryouts.  Times and dates will be posted on the website.
  • GYL has a minimum of 8 selectors per year that do their best to evaluate each child.
  • The teams are typically grade specific. The profile for these teams changes yearly and we discuss this at the conclusion of tryouts.
  • Girls in 4th grade do not participate in the tryout process and are placed evenly on teams during the first few weeks of practices.
  • Please note that these team configurations, grades 4– 8, can change each year due to the changes in grade enrollment.
  • For 2010, girls in 5th thru 7th grade participate in the tryout process and are divided evenly onto teams, and girls in the 8th grade participate in the tryout process and are divided onto an A or a B team. However, GYL reserves the right to amend these team configurations at the conclusion of tryouts.
  • 8th grade teams will participate in CONNY (Conn/NY lacrosse league) and compete in the June post season tournament.
